PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus which suppresses a feeling of incompatibility given to a user. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an image sensor 22 having an array of a plurality of pixels 221 and 222 receiving luminous flux through a photographic optical system 31 and outputting a photodetection signal; a half-mirror 21 provided to be inserted into and extracted from the optical path between the photographic optical system and image sensor; a detecting means 25 of detecting a focus adjustment state of the photographic optical system based upon the photodetection signal; a focus adjusting means 32 of adjusting the focus adjustment state by driving the photographic optical system according to the focus adjustment state detected by the detecting means; and a moving means 23 of moving the image sensor by a movement based on the insertion or extraction of the half-mirror.
