The invention is predicated on the finding that the gene expression level of two genes, GAPDH and RPL37A, already exhibits a powerful predictive power for assessing the outcome of a neoplastic or cancerous disease. The invention relates to a method for predicting an outcome of a patient suffering from or at risk of developing a neoplastic disease, said method comprising the steps of: a) obtaining a biological sample from said patient; b) quantif iably determining the gene expression level of GAPDH or RPL37A and at least one further housekeeping gene, wherein the expression level of GAPDH or RPL37A is determined in relation to the expression level of the at least one further housekeeping gene; c) arriving at a prediction by means of a mathematical discriminate function.
