PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce obstruction in use of a coordinate measuring machine, and to reduce the burden for managing a large amount of calibration data. SOLUTION: A modular calibration method comprises a preliminary calibration step of a plurality of subsystems 10 prior to a step of mounting the coordinate measuring machine. In the preliminary calibration step, a part of the subsystems 10 is calibrated individually, then individual calibration information is provided to each subsystem 10, and map files 20 are generated and associated with the calibrated subsystems 10. The modular calibration method also comprises a storing step of storing the calibration information and a final adjusting step of processing the calibration information gathered during the preliminary calibration step.
