[Class 46] Liquid is filtered by being fed to a gap between the peripheries of two bodies which rotate in the same sense, the liquid passing through the gap while the impurities are retained. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, a tank 1 is closed by a pair of rolls 3, 4 rotatably mounted and spaced apart by a narrow gap 5. The rolls rotate as indicated by the arrows, the roll 4 rotating at a greater speed than the roll 3. Impurities are drawn up by the roll 4, scraped off the roll by a scraper 9 and collect behind a guide plate 12 and a perforated partition 14. A second guide plate 11 operates to distribute the liquid on the surface of roll 3. The filtered liquid is scraped from the roll 3 and collected in a tank 6. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, a series of rolls is employed with a small gap between each pair of adjoining rolls. The purified liquid collects in a container 133 and the impurities are transferred from roll to roll, finally being discharged into a compartment 139. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also other forms of construction. In a modification of the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the impurities are caught between parallel rotary discs and are delivered to a container located at the top of the tank 1. In the construction shown in Fig. 7 (Cancelled), plates 61 separated by spacing members 62 are mounted on shafts 63, 65 and form a zig-zag gap for the passage of the filtered liquid. In a further construction shown in Fig. 12 (Cancelled), a casing 121 contains five rolls 125, each consisting of spaced plates adapted to trap impurities while the filtered liquid flows into a sump 123. The impurities are carried from roll to roll and are removed. by a scraper 127. Scraper blades 129 remove filtered liquid from between the plates. Somewhat similar filtering arrangements employing one and two laminated rolls are also described. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.</p> |
