<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device and an image reading method for acquiring a clear image having a proper contrast even under intense disturbance light such as direct sunlight by quickly setting the light accumulation time of an image pickup element during an image reading operation. <P>SOLUTION: The image reading device includes: a light emitting means 10 that irradiates an object 150 with exit light 11; an image pickup element 20 that receives incident light 12 from the object and generates an electrical signal according to the quantity of the received light; an object approach detecting means 40 that detects that the object has approached the image pickup element; a disturbance light intensity deciding means 50 that turns off the light emitting means when the object approach detecting means detects the approach of the object, controls the image pickup element to acquire the image of the object for a predetermined number of pixels, and decides a disturbance light intensity based on the pixel data of the image; and a light accumulating time setting means 60 that sets a light accumulating time of the image pickup element based on the disturbance light intensity decided by the disturbance light intensity deciding means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
