PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems wherein a power consumption, an area, and costs in a transmission system cannot be reduced since a memory for storing erroneous information and a memory for VC storage are required for each duplexed transmission path, in the transmission system that relays one transmission path in the duplex transmission path for transmitting the same data as SDH (synchronous digital hierarchy) signals and changes a transmission path to be relayed to the other transmission path when a trouble occurs in a relaying transmission path. SOLUTION: The transmission system has first and second error information superimposition sections 112, 122 for superimposing respective pieces of error information 14a, 24a of both the systems for each VC on each VC stored at the payload portion of SDH signals 10b, 20b in both the systems by utilizing SOH.
