540,984. Batteries. DANZIGER, F. May 6, 1940, No. 8120. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 25, 1940.] [Class 53] In a method of making a rechargeable dry battery a porous spacer of cloth, wood &c. is moistened with electrolyte and then pressed into intimate contact with the negative electrode. The porous member 19 is pressed into firm contact with the zinc can 20 before the carbon 11 and depolarizer 17 are inserted, the whole being surrounded by a cardboard container 32 and an additional cap 33. An air space 34, which may be filled with sand or sawdust, is formed between wax &c. sealing 35 and spacer 36 and sleeve 39. Porous spacers 42 are placed at the bottom of the zinc can but these may be formed in one with the member 19. The depolarizer may be contained in a cloth &c. container separate from the member 19. The zinc may be sprayed to form the electrodes. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that if the negative electrode is made of spongy zinc within an insulating container, the porous member 19 may be omitted. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted. |
