<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor capable of shortening the period of time while securing water resistance during which a gas sensor element is active. <P>SOLUTION: A gas sensor is formed such that a sensing section 21 of a gas sensor element 2 is covered with an element cover 12. The entire circumference of a cross-section of the sensing section 21 in the gas sensor element 2 is covered with a porous protecting layer 5 formed with a large number of pores by ceramic particles. The porous protecting layer 5 has a thickness of not less than 10 μm in the cross-section of the sensing section 21. In the cross-section, the space between the porous protecting layer 5 over the entire circumference of the element cover 12 and the element cover 12 is in a range of 0.2 to 6 mm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
