PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for an active suspension capable of changing the characteristics for controlling the suspension in accordance with various conditions related to running of a vehicle. SOLUTION: The rule for controlling actuator 2 is the optimum rule for controlling actuator and minimizing an evaluation function being the integration of the sum of the term expressing a value obtained by adding weighting factor to the energy to be transmitted to a vehicle body and wheels from the actuator 2 and the term expressing a function giving evaluation of control performance. A controlling means 10 controls the actuator 2 in accordance with the rule for controlling actuator and changes weighting factor in the rule for controlling actuator in accordance with various conditions detected by detecting means 11, 12, 13.
