PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine which can show a wider-ranging sterilizing and antibacterial effect against bacteria, fungi and the like by increasing the amount of a photoexcited antibacterial material attached to clothes by injecting a softening agent before the photoexcited antibacterial material, when the laundry is subjected to sterilizing and antibacterial treatment with the low concentration of photoexcited antibacterial material. SOLUTION: The drum type washing machine comprises the first rinsing process and a second rinsing process. After injecting the softening agent into a rotating drum 24 in the first rinsing process (step 110), photoexcited antibacterial material-loaded water is injected into the rotating drum 24 by a photoexcited antibacterial material generating means 48 (steps 111 and 120) and the inside of the rotating drum 24 is irradiated with light by a light irradiation means 50 (step 112) in the first rinsing process and the second rinsing process. In this manner, the softening agent absorbs the photoexcited antibacterial material and the amount of the photoexcited antibacterial material attached to the clothes can be increased.
