The vehicle air conditioning system (1) has a compressor (3), an evaporator (4) and a power supply (6) for the air conditioning system. The vehicle air conditioning system stands in connection electrically with a primary energy source such as a lead-acid battery when driving the vehicle. The power supply of the air conditioning system comprises an auxiliary supply (8), which comprises another energy source (9) such as a lithium iron phosphate battery with additional energy storage (10) for a standstill air conditioning of the vehicle. An independent claim is included for a method for operating a vehicle air conditioning system.
