Multiple different and asynchronous E1 Plesiochronous Digital Heriarchy (PDH) data flows having respective clocks are transported over a packet network by: - encapsulating the multiple E1s into an aggregate stream by adapting the respective clocks by means of stuffing bytes, - fragmenting the aggregate stream into packets and adding thereto a packet network header, transporting the packets over the packet network, - extracting the aggregate stream from the packets transported over the packet network, and decapsulating the multiple E1s from the aggregate stream extracted from the packets transported over the packet network by removing the stuffing bytes, thus recovering the multiple E1s.
