PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine cooling system capable of detecting residual air and further removing the residual air, thus attaining efficient engine cooling performance. SOLUTION: The cooling system 1 for an engine 2 includes: a heat accumulation tank 5 for storing cooling water removed from a water jacket 4 provided in the engine 1; a motor-driven pump 6 for transferring cooling water between the water jacket 4 and the heat accumulation tank 5; a liquid level sensor 25 for acquiring the liquid level information of the cooling water in the water jacket 4; and an ECU 24 for calculating residual air in the water jacket 4 based on the liquid level information of the cooling water obtained by the liquid level sensor 25, thereby detecting and calculating a residual air amount in the water jacket 4.
