PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for identifying a compound modulating the expression of a gene participating its expression in the progress of senescence of mammalian tumor cells. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the identification of a tumor senescence gene induced by a treatment with cytotoxic agents. The invention provides a reagent and a method for identifying a compound to induce the expression of these cellular genes and produce cellular senescence, particularly senescence in tumor cells. The invention also provides a reagent comprising a recombinant mammalian cell containing a recombinant expression construct expressing a reporter gene under the transcriptional control of a promoter for a gene wherein the expression of the gene is modulated in a senescent cell, and a method for using such cell to identify a compound modulating the expression of these cellular genes.
