A pointing device by which the load on user's fingers of when the moving direction of a pointer (4) is minutely changed can be lightened. The pointing device comprises a device base (1), a rotating body (2), a press position detector (7) for detecting the position of press when the rotating body (2) is pressed by the user's operation, a pressing force detector (11) for detecting the depth of press or pressing force when the rotating body (2) is pressed by the user's operation, a first moving direction setter (8) for setting the moving direction of the pointer (4) with respect to a background image (50) according to the detected position of press, a first moving speed setter (12) for setting the moving speed of the pointer (4) with respect to the background image (50) according to the detected depth of press or pressing force, and a first display position setter (15) for setting the display position of the pointer (4) on a liquid crystal display unit (3) according to the set moving direction and moving speed of the pointer (4) with respect to the background image (50).
