PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically adjust a transmission voltage sent to an ultrasonic probe, to an optimum value according to a subject. SOLUTION: An average value SNRmeans of sensitivities SNRi in each of image areas (m×n) recognized as the subject 2 is determined. If the average value SNRmean of the sensitivities SNRi is greater than a threshold value SNRterget, the transmission voltage E to the ultrasonic probe 1 is limited according to the difference between the average value SNRmin of sensitivities and the threshold value SNRterget.
