[Class 89 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A lock nut has a body portion 1, and a smaller portion attached by a bellows 3 the internal surface of which is undercut in a sequence of operations. A cutter 7, Fig. 3, is first used to cut the recess 11, the shoulders 9, 10 cutting the chamfers 12, 13 at the same time. A thinner tool of greater radius next cuts the recess 14, and finally another tool cuts the recess 15. The nut is then tapped, and finally compressed axially to displace the threads of the two portions. The outer surface of the bellows has a tapered section, and the upper part 2 of the nut has a bead projecting radially beyond the inner wall of the bellows.
