A detector system has first and second pre-concentrator stages each with sorbent material, the first pre-concentrator stage 902A being detachable for collecting samples remotely from the remainder of the detector system. The detachable pre-concentrator stage 902A, which optionally has a fan to draw sample across its sorbent material, mates with the second pre-concentrator stage, e.g. by entering an interface housing 906A optionally with a lid 904A, and can transfer its desorbed sample to that stage which optionally also incorporates the functions of a sample loop serving as an injection volume to the separation column of an analytical instrument. In one embodiment, the second pre-concentrator stage serves as a sample loop that preferably integrates suitable valves with sorbent materials onto the same structure to minimise dead volume, maximise sensitivity, improving column loading efficiency, reducing duty cycles and minimising detection system response time. |
