The mechanism has an annular diaphragm (10) with an external radial annular part that is supported on a clutch cover (14) for soliciting a pressure plate axially towards a reaction plate, where the annular part is formed from a belleville washer (12). An internal radial part of the diaphragm has elastically deformable radial fingers, whose free ends are cooperated with a clutch stopper. A stop unit (44) stops the external radial annular part of the diaphragm on the cover at the end of the clutching. The stop unit has a rod mounted on an internal face of the cover.
