[Class 51 (ii)] In a furnace charge preheater of the kind in which the waste gases are drawn through a layer of material during its progress over an inclined grate 4, a hopper 6 is provided beneath the lower end of the grate in which the material accumulates and prevents passage of the gases to the exhaust 8 except through the material on the grate. From the hopper 6 the material may pass through a shoot direct to the furnace 1, or as shown an oscillating tray 14 is fitted to control the feed. The inclination of the grate may be adjusted about the axis 11 by the screw and nut 13, and the thickness of the layer of material delivered to the grate may be varied by the pivoted shoot 5.</p> |
