The apparatus has rubberized pressure rollers (11) and supporting rollers (18) defining a transport path (100) along a workpiece (33), and a grinding roll (23) extending into the path and contacting the workpiece circumferentially on the way along the path. A pressure device applies elastic pressure force to the grinding roll in a direction of the workpiece such that the grinding roll is set flexibly against the workpiece in such a way to follow a contour of the workpiece. A counter-pressure roller (14) is assigned to the grinding roll and arranged on an opposite side of the path.
