A method and an apparatus for transmitting and receiving object based audio contents are provided to include audio ES(Elementary Stream) common information in one multi object packet header, thereby reducing data due to unnecessary information. An input unit(502) provides received ESs to a filtering unit(510). The filtering unit filters common information. An ES packetizing unit(520) adds a packet header for packetizing the input ES to generate an ES packet. A multi object packetizing unit(530) adds a multi object packet header by collecting ES packets. A 3D information input unit provides received 3D information to a transmitting unit(540). The transmitting unit multiplexes a generated object packet or 3D information. The transmitting unit packetizes and transmits the multiplexed information according to a transmission medium.
