A photovoltaic tile assembly 10 comprises a base tile 12 and one or more cover tiles 16. The base tile 12 has at least one solid region (14, fig 2) through which a mechanical fastener is driven to fasten the base tile 12 to an underlying roof structure. Cover tiles 16 each have photovoltaic cell (18, fig 4) for converting solar energy into electricity and are electrically and mechanically coupled to a corresponding base tile 12 by connection posts 22. Each post 22 is electrically coupled to an electrical connection tube 28 to facilitate electrical coupling of the cover tiles 16 to a power management system. Adjacent tile assemblies 10 are coupled via tongues 52 and grooves 56 provided on each base tile 12. The tongues 52 and grooves 56 engage so as to form a waterproof seal. |
