A method for fetching a memo of a private message in a mobile terminal and a mobile terminal therefor are provided to enable a user to confirm important information promptly by fetching important information as a memo of a private message and storing the memo separately. A mobile communication terminal receives a short message or a multimedia message from the outside through a wireless transceiving unit(1). The message is stored at a message box of a memory(2). A controller receives, through a key input unit, a user input for the confirmation of a message stored at the memory(3). The controller fetches a message that a user selects from the memory, and the contents of the message are displayed on a display unit(4). A character string or a region selection input for the storage of memo fetch or storage are received from the user(5). According to the received input, the character string or region selected in the message are fetched(6,7). A flag which notifies the fetch of the memo from the correspondent message is set up(10). The fetched character string or region is stored in a memo list(11).
