The method involves capturing a reference biometric sample provided by an authorized user to be authenticated by a portable object e.g. chip card. The biometric sample is transmitted to an authentication server e.g. banking organization authentication server, in a secured form by the portable object, and a signature to be authenticated is determined from the biometric sample by the authentication server. The signature is compared to a reference signature. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a computer program product comprising a set of instructions for executing a method for authenticating biometric of a user (2) an authentication server comprising an user biometric authentication unit (3) a terminal for reading a portable object for receiving the portable object (4) a portable object comprising biometric sensor for biometric authentication.
