发明名称 New or improved means for purifying and/or cleansing gases
摘要 541,093. Filtering and depositing dust from gases. BRUSH ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., MONCK, B. E. M., and MORRISON, A. C. April 11, 1940, No. 6537. [Class 8 (ii)] [Also in Group XII] Apparatus for cleaning gases, and particularly air for internal combustion engines, comprises a container in which is a bath of liquid, for example oil, through which the gases normally pass and a byepass therefor, and a bed of granular or like material coated with the bath liquid, and so arranged that the gases contact with the material after passing through the bath or byepass. For preliminary dry cleaning, the gas passes through a casing 3 in which are baffle plates 7, 9 with openings 8, 10 in staggered relationship, intermediate sectorshaped baffles 11 retaining the deposited matter, and preventing it from being carried along to the outlet 12. The baffles are held in position by an axial rod 13 and distance pieces 14. In a second stage cleaner, Fig. 2, the gas passes from an inlet 23 through sisal wool in a cylindrical perforated container 22, and out through an outlet 24. For the wet cleaning, and to remove acid impurities, the gas passes from an inlet 26, Fig. 3, into a hollow member 27 partially immersed in sodium carbonate solution 28 and provided with slits 29 and 30, the latter extending above the surface of the liquid so that on slight suction only from an engine using the gas, no resistance is made to the passage of the gas. When the suction is increased, the level of the liquid rises, and the gas is caused to pass through it. The gas then traverses a cylinder 44 with perforated top and bottom plates 43 between which is a mass of ferric oxide or steel wool, the gas finally passing through a layer 48 of fibrous material such as cocoa matting to an outlet 32. In a final cleaner, Fig. 4, the gas passes from an inlet 49 past baffle plates 67, 68, 69 through sisal wool 761 and down through an axial pipe 64 to a chamber 87 with a perforated portion 89 partially immersed in oil, the perforations 89 being above the oil level. The gas then passes through porcelain chips in a container 81 with a perforated base 82, the surface of the chips being maintained in an oily condition, and, after contact with baffles 71, 75 the purified gas leaves by an outlet 50. A water jacket 77 may be provided. The apparatus shown in Figs. 3 and 4 may be used independently and with or without the preliminary dry cleaning devices.
