A pin tumbler cylinder assembly comprises a plug 502 rotatably mounted in a cylinder housing 501, a keyway extending along the plug, a plurality of tumbler pins 3 and a plurality of associated driver pins 4. The tumbler pins include a telescopic tumbler pin assembly 3D including an inner pin 31 slidably mounted in an outer pin 32, the inner pin being arranged to be resiliently biased inwardly by an associated driver pin and the outer pin being arranged to be biased inwardly by a resilient member 33 acting between the inner and outer pins. The plug is prevented from rotating relative to the cylinder housing by the telescopic tumbler pin assembly except when the radially inner end of the outer pin projects inwardly into the keyway further by a predetermined amount than the radially inner end of the inner pin. The cylinder assembly may further comprise a further telescopic pin assembly 3B which prevents the plug from rotating except when the radially inner end of a further inner pin projects inwardly into the keyway further by a predetermined amount that the radially inner end of a further outer pin. |
