A measuring tape is provided to improve the safety due to the self locking in loosening and rewinding the tape. A measuring tape comprises a case(10) having an inlet, a reel(30) which is mounted inside the case pivotally, a spiral spring(40) which rotates the reel at the opposite direction with the elastic restoring force, a tape(50) which is wound to the initial position according to the exterior of reel in the maximum diameter, a turning member(60) in which the other end(64) is arranged across the tape, a friction member(80) which contacts the tape wound up around reel, and an elastic member(90) in which the friction member circulates the turning member with the elastic restoring force to the tape.
