A portable terminal having a speaker distinguishing function in a multilateral video call, and a method for distinguishing a speaker during the multilateral video call are provided to enable a user to easily determine the image of a speaker among images of plural participants in the multilateral video call by listening to the voice of the speaker. A storage unit(150) stores sound volume weight information corresponding to each speaker participating in a multilateral video call. When voice data is provided from an arbitrary speaker, a controller(140) reads the sound volume weight corresponding to the arbitrary speaker, and generates a sound volume control signal based on the read sound volume weight. Based on the sound volume control signal, an audio codec(130) controls the sound volume of a left channel and the sound volume of a right channel which output the voice of the speaker.
