[Class 18] The blank shown in Fig. 4 is fed on to and supported by tables g, Fig. 5, where obliquely disposed flaps d' fold tabs c<1> about crease lines c<2> on to the face of the blank flaps and flaps d<2> fold the walls c<4> over on to the tabs. The blank which has been previously gummed in a machine such as that described in Specification 515,595, falls on to a conveyer chain running in guides a and it is arrested and positioned by stops while the folding operation is performed, the blank being held down meanwhile by a pivoted arm; and it passes subsequently to rollers which consolidate the joint between the walls and the tabs. The flaps d<1> are hinged carry loading flanges d', and are operated by interengaging toothed segments and vertically moving racks d<6>. The ends of each flap d<2> are hinged to separate tables g, and the flaps are operated in a similar manner to the flaps d<1>. Prior to entering the machine, the tabs and walls may be pressed down by cones to prevent them " rising " inadvertently. |
