A digital image processing apparatus comprising a function of holding an image angle and a method of controlling the same are provided to enable a user to select an image that the user likes the most by photographing an image having the same composition several times. A photographing unit(210) captures an image and converts the image into a digital signal. A digital signal processing unit(220) performs and controls the entire operation of a digital image processing device(200). A controller(221) generates a driving signal for adjusting posture of a photographing device by receiving angle information from an angle information generation unit(223). A direction determination unit(222) determines an actual horizontal direction or a vertical direction in an image selected among photographed and stored images when an input signal for performing an angle holding function from the user exists.
