摘要 504,984. Type-printing telegraphy. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GKS. June 21, 1938, No. 18419. Convention date, June 22, 1937. [Class 40 (iii)] An arrangement for the translation of impulse combinations, particularly for printing-telegraph receivers, in which part of the combination is translated by one device and part by another device is characterized in that the first and last impulses are translated by the same device. In the described embodiment two selector bars, controlled by the second and third impulses of a five impulse combination, govern the longitudinal displacement of a multi-row type wheel while the first, fourth and fifth impulses control, by means of a stop wheel, the rotational movement of the typewheel. On the attraction of the armature 12, Fig. 3, of the receiving magnet 11, a projection 15 on it is removed from engagement with a sliding member 17 which controls a lever 20 pivoted at 22. The removal of the projection 15 allows clockwise rotation of the lever 20 to release a detent 23 from engagement with a projecting lug 24 fixed to a frictionally driven shaft 4 which is thus released for a single revolution. A further projection 16 on the armature controls the operation of five selecting members described below. Rotational displacement of typewheel. The control shaft 4 carries a. cam wheel 49, Fig. 4, which has inner and outer guide slots 50, 51. A two-armed lever 44, 47, pivoted freely on a shaft 34, carries a stud 48 which can be made to slide in either of these slots and also a resiliently mounted member 55 which, under the control of the projection 16, allows the stud 48 to fall into the slot 50 or be raised to the slot 51. The lower end 44 of the lever may engage one or other of two unequal arms 45, 46 of a lever 43 fixed to the frictionally driven type shaft 5. The type shaft is thus held or released for half a revolution the stud 48 being guided into the inner or outer slots 50, 51 by means of the armature projection 16 so that the long or short arm of the lever 43 may be held. Two cam discs 26, 28, Fig. 5, angularly displaced from each other and fixed to the control shaft 4, utilize the fourth and fifth impulses to control further rotation of the type shaft 5. Three-armed levers 27, 29, under the influence of the armature projection co-operating with individual lugs 30, 41, are either held or are allowed to fall into recesses on these discs, thus in the latter case, by means of their lower ends 31, 40, allowing the passage of one tooth of the stop wheel 32 with which they are normally in engagement. The arm 31 co-operates with four equally spaced teeth and the arm 40 with eight equally spaced teeth. The third arms 38, 39, by entering between the teeth of the stop wheel, act as an escapement, preventing the wheel from rotating more than one tooth. During the period that the type shaft 5 is under the control of these stop levers, the arm 44, Fig. 4, is released from its stop 43 owing to the stud 48 rising to the high part 58 of the cam disc 49. Longitudinal displacement of typewheel. This is governed by two selector bars 71, 72, Fig. 6, moved by cam projections on the lower arms of individual levers 65, 66 pivoted on the shaft 34. By means of projections 67 coacting with the armature projection 16 these levers are held or are rendered free to move counterclockwise when slots 63, 64 in individual cam discs 61, 62 on the control shaft 4 move to a position adjacent studs 68, 69 carried in the upper arms of the levers 65, 66. The slots in the selector bars 71, 72 are saw tooth in shape, Fig. 8, and co-operate with pawls 93, 94, pivoted on a vertical lever 77, and so shaped that if the lever 77 is pivoted about a spindle 76 clockwise the pawl 94 may be selected and held on its return movement and if it is moved anticlockwise the pawl 93 may be similarly selected. The initial sideways movement is effected by a pin 92 mounted on a lever 79, Fig. 9, resiliently connected to the lever 77 by spring loaded links 83, 84 and which is made to. move in one or other of two oblique grooves 90, 91, Fig. 8, in a drum 89 revolving with the shaft 4. The movement of the lever 77 is communicated to the slidable typewheel 6 by means of a stud 75 engaging in a groove 74 on a cylinder integral with the typewheel. An additional fixed bar 151 is provided parallel to the selector bars in order to hold the selected pawl positively in the selected position. Case shift. For convenience in effecting case shift four adjacent rows of type represent the upper case and the other four adjacent rows represent the lower case. The receipt of a case shift signal positions the type shaft 5 and lever 77 in corresponding positions. The rotational position of the type shaft 5 is then such as to bring a slot 106, Fig. 8, in a disc 105, mounted thereon, to a position in which it allows the passage therethrough. of the lower arm 104 of one of two pivoted members 99, 100 mounted on a shaft 111. As a further result of the combination, the stud 107 is in. a position such as to allow, by means of the slots 108, in extensions of the levers 99, 100, either clockwise movement of the lever 100 or anticlockwise movement of the lever 99. According to which is selected projections 112, 109 carried by them raise or lower a pivoted slotted member 110 the slot in which moves sideways a stud 107, mounted on the lever 79, Fig. 9, similarly to the stud 92 so that the latter is moved to engage the correct groove 90, 91. During this movement the pawls 93, 94 are raised from engagement with the selector bars 71, 72 by means of a further bar 70 which is moved longitudinally by means of a stud 114 engaging a lever 113 mounted to move with the member 110. immediately the change in position of the stud 92 has taken place the levers 99 100 are reset by a cam 98 revolving with the control shaft 4. Printing and paper feed. On the control shaft 4, Fig. 9, is a printing cam 129 which by means of a follower 130 raises the printing hammer 124, attached to it, and allows it to return under the influence of a spring 128 when selection of the type has been completed thus striking the tape 78 against the type wheel 6. Also on the control shaft 4 is a feed cam 131 whose follower 132 oscillates, by means of a slot 133 and stud connection 134, a.plate 135 carrying a pawl 138 pivoted on it at 137. This pawl steps the feed roller 126 forward by means of a ratchet wheel 140. During a case shift operation the shift member 110 moves, clockwise or anticlockwise, a pivoted arm 141 having, at its further extremity a cam engagement 145 with a pivoted lever 146 on .a spindle 147. Movement of this lever 146 raises clockwise an arm 149 which, owing to an extension 150 of the pawl 138 removes the latter from engagement with the feed ratchet 140, so interrupting the feed of the tape.
