The system has a vertical load determining unit for determining vertical loads applied on front and rear wheels of front and rear axles (2, 3) of a motor vehicle. A longitudinal and/or transversal acceleration sensor measures the longitudinal and/or transversal acceleration of the vehicle. An electronic unit has a calculation unit to calculate longitudinal positioning values (L1, L2), a height value (h) and lateral positioning values of the centre of gravity (G) of the vehicle according to the determined vertical loads and the measured longitudinal and/or transversal acceleration. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining a position of centre of gravity of a motor vehicle with a front axle and a rear axle.
