The system has a preheating assembly control module (11) for simultaneously activating the operation of a spark plug (2) and an intake air preheater (6) of a preheating assembly, when the temperature (Tfc) of heat transfer fluid in an oil engine (1) is less than temperature threshold. The heat transfer fluid circulates in a circulation loop (8) for thermal regulation of the engine. The control module only activates the operation of the plug, when the temperature is in the range between the threshold and another threshold. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling an air/fuel mixture preheating assembly.
