PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a Ni-containing steel, which prevents surface flaws from being produced on the steel sheet originating in AlN in boundaries among formerγ-grains having existed in a material to be heated and rolled, in order to reduce a load of a caring process for surface flaws on the Ni-containing steel sheet, which is an obstacle for production in a manufacturing site. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the Ni-containing steel comprises the steps of: preparing a slab as a material to be rolled, which comprises, by mass%, 0.03 to 0.2% C, 0.02 to 0.5% Si, 0.3 to 2.0% Mn, 0.0005 to 0.02% P, 0.0001 to 0.006% S, 1.0 to 10% Ni, 0.01 to 0.08% Al, 0.002 to 0.006% N, 0.0005 to 0.004% O and the balance Fe with unavoidable impurities, and includes former austenite grains with an average diameter of 500μm or smaller in a layer 2 to 20 mm deep from the surface layer; heating the slab at 1,000 to 1,180°C; and rolling the slab.
