PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface processing method of a woody material able to densify a surface part of a woody material by a simple method. SOLUTION: The woody material W formed to a rectangle shape is put on a sending belt 18 is sent at a constant speed. A friction roller 20 which revolves at an ordinary temperature is made a peripheral speed larger than a sending speed of the woody material W. A peripheral speed of the friction roller 20 at a contacted part with the woody material W is set to an opposite direction to a direction for sending the woody material. By the roller 20, the surface 24 of the woody material W is rubbed at a pressure welding state. Then in a moment the surface 24 of the woody material W is forced to become a high temperature/a high compressed state, the surface part 26 is compacted. Further a water A containing a silicone is applied to the woody material W rubbed by the friction roller 20. A flexible part 14 of the woody material W is expanded by absorbing the water A containing a silicone and a rugged part is formed on the surface 24 of the woody material W.
