<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition for optical recording suitable for manufacturing a holographic recording medium having high recording and reproducing accuracy. <P>SOLUTION: The composition for optical recording contains a compound expressed by general formula (1). In formula (1), each of R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>4</SP>independently represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent.
