PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To downsize an image reader wherein a casing provided with an image reading means performs scanning and moves in parallel with the document surface of a document placed on a platen and to shorten the image read time. SOLUTION: The casing 4 is provided with a plurality of image reading sensors 7, a driving motor 6, and a control board 8, and image read positions X of at least two of the plurality of image reading sensors 7 are arranged in both end parts 4a and 4b of the casing 4 with respect to the scanning and moving direction Z of the casing 4 which is caused to scan and is moved by the driving motor 6.
