The invention relates to a nutritional food product which is made from cooked, seasoned and dehydrated prickly pear and to a method of producing same. The resulting product takes the form of a snack which is made from cured meat, which has an improved flavour and appearance and which is free of animal fats and hormones. The inventive product has a long life without requiring preservatives or refrigeration and, as such, makes a perfect snack or delicacy. The product obtained provides the consumer with the benefits of prickly pear in an economical manner.
