Provided is an illuminating apparatus having high luminance in-plane uniformity without generating a dark portion at a connecting section between surface light source panels. An illuminating apparatus (1) is provided with a plurality of surface light source panels (2), and a plurality of light diffusing/reflecting plates (3) arranged on the light outgoing side of the surface light source panels (2). In each light diffusing/reflecting plate (3), a rectangular bottom surface is arranged on a light emitting region of the surface light source panel (2), a light outgoing surface (3a) has dimensions equivalent to those of a planar outline of the surface light source panel (2), and a side surface (3c) is formed to incline diagonally outward, from the bottom surface toward the light outgoing surface (3a). The adjacent light diffusing/reflecting plates (3) are brought into contact with each other without having a gap in between, and the light outgoing surfaces (3a) are continuously arranged.
