LIGHTGUIDE LAMINATION TO REDUCE REFLECTOR LOSS

A lightguide laminate, and displays and display backlights incorporating such lightguide laminates are disclosed. The lightguide laminate includes an optically thick lightguide, an optically thick adhesive layer, and an interference reflector. The optically thick lightguide includes a material having a refractive index that is greater than the refractive index of the optically thick adhesive over a wavelength range of interest. The optically thick lightguide has first and second major surfaces, and the optically thick adhesive layer is in contact with the second major surface of the optically thick lightguide. The reflector is also in contact with the adhesive layer, opposite the optically thick lightguide. The reflector is selected to substantially reflect light over the wavelength range of interest.
