PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a thermoplastic resin molded article having a low specific gravity, capable of performing injection-molding despite the resin containing≥50 mass% plant-based materials, and to provide the thermoplastic resin molded article. SOLUTION: This method for producing the thermoplastic resin molded article 104 includes using a first plant-based material 101 (kenaf core, etc.), a second plant-based material 102 (kenaf core, etc.) and a thermoplastic resin 103 (a polylactic acid resin, etc.). In the case of setting the total of the first plant-based material and the thermoplastic resin to be 100 mass%, the first plant-based material is 50 to 70 mass% and the second plant-based material has a particle form having a size larger than that of the first plant-based material. The method comprises a mixing process of mixing the first plant-based material with the thermoplastic resin by an agitator to produce the thermoplastic resin mixture, and a molding process of putting-in the thermoplastic resin composition and the second plant-based material together into an injection molder to obtain the thermoplastic resin molded article.
