LOCATOR STUD AND METHOD OF ASSEMBLY

A locator stud including a radial flange portion having an end face and an axial generally conical recess opening through the end face and a cylindrical shank integral with an extending from the radial flange. The radial flange includes a frustoconical surface adjacent the annular end face and a polygonal surface having radial projections extending from the corners preventing rotation following installation. The method of attachment includes forming a configured opening in a panel having an internal diameter less than the radial flange portion, driving the radial flange portion into the opening in the panel and driving a die member into the generally conical recess, deforming the end of the radial flange portion into the panel opening forming a secure assembly.
