The device has an optical image detection unit (2) i.e. camera-based image processing system, for detecting permissible maximum speed, and an output unit (3) for outputting a warning signal while exceeding the detected permissible maximum speed. The optical image detection unit is arranged in inner area of a vehicle (1) with detection area arranged in a direction of a windscreen (1.1) or in a headlight with a detection area (1.2). The optical image detection unit detects a traffic sign arranged directly at a driving route (V) as traffic information. An independent claim is also included for a method for displaying traffic information in a vehicle.
