<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protein inhibiting cellular apoptosis, to provide a method of isolating genes encoding such a protein, and to provide a method of modulating cellular apoptosis. <P>SOLUTION: Survivin-encoding genes are provided for solving the above problems.
