PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce horizontal line noise in an electronic camera such as a video camera and a digital still camera. SOLUTION: A solid-state imaging element 3 of the electronic camera has an effective area 31 which is disposed in the center of a light reception surface P and optical black areas 33a and 33b which are disposed on both sides of the effective area 31. In generating an output signal on the basis of an image signal output by an effective pixel in the effective area 31, black-level correction is performed on the image signal by using both black-level signals output by optical black pixels in the two optical black areas 33a and 33b. Thus, black-level correction of the image signal is performed finely and the horizontal line noise is reduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
