PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a HDD from being damaged by careless operation of the HDD, when a vehicle apparatus is activated at a high altitude, exceeding the altitude at which the operation of the HDD is guaranteed. SOLUTION: The altitude information on the altitude at a current location is obtained prior to an operation of the HDD is initiated during a first activation, after standby power supplied from a vehicle is interrupted once (S210); and if the altitude information obtained indicates high altitude to be higher than the predetermined altitude (S220: "YES"), a message that inquires whether the operation of the HDD is allowed is notified to the user (S230). If an operation instruction that permits operation of the HDD is received as a response to the message from the user (S240: "YES"), operation of the HDD is permitted (S250), and readout of the data from the HDD is initiated (S260).
