Retardation expressibility of a transparent polymer film can be easily controlled by heat treatment of the film at a temperature T (unit, ° C.) satisfying a condition of the following formula (1): <?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?>Tc<=T<Tm0 Formula (1)<?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?> wherein Tc represents the crystallization temperature (unit, ° C.) of the film before the heat treatment; and Tm0 represents the melting point (unit, ° C.) of the film before the heat treatment.
