A dual standby mode type mobile terminal and a communication mode control method thereof are provided to perform the wireless communication at the same time in two different communication networks through one card connection unit and one smart card. In one dual mode smart card(70), the first data related to the first wireless communication mode and the second data related to the second wireless communication mode are stored. In a buffer part(55), the first and second data of the dual mode smart card are loaded. The first controller(30) stores the first and second data of the dual mode smart card in the buffer part. By using the first data stored in the buffer part, the first controller performs the first wireless communication mode. By using the second data stored in the buffer part, the second controller(40) performs the second wireless communication mode.
