<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor having a structure that facilitates introduction of atmospheric air as reference gas, hardly undergoes intrusion of a water droplet, and has high durability. <P>SOLUTION: The gas sensor 1 includes a gas-concentration detecting element 10, a casing 310 accommodating the gas-concentration detecting element 10, a lead wire 114 delivering a detected potential to an outside, an insulator 330 insulating and holding the lead wire 114, a columnar elastic sealing member 370, air holes 314 formed in the casing 310 for admitting atmospheric air to an inside thereof, and a water repellent filter 350. The water repellent filter 350, formed in a substantially cylindrical shape, is disposed between the casing 310 and the insulator 330, and a cylindrical elastic member 340 is inserted in at least one of an area between the water repellent filter 350 and the casing 310 and another area between the water repellent filter 350 and the insulator 330.
